Regenerative Medicine
You don't have to be an elite athlete to appreciate the tissue-healing and pain-relieving abilities of regenerative medicine – also called orthobiologics. It holds great promise for many orthopedic conditions and has shown particular success in promoting the accelerated healing of joints damaged by arthritis.
The goal of regenerative medicine is to support, stimulate, and enhance the body’s natural healing capabilities and to help repair defects that would not normally heal on their own. These treatments aim to promote the growth of new, healthy tissue at the site of an injury. By doing this, regenerative medicine can relieve pain, restore function, and even help patients avoid surgery.
Advancements with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapies are leading orthopedics into a new era. The use of PRP and adult stem cells can be particularly beneficial in easing pain and restoring mobility after a sports injury. Because the regenerative therapies we utilize at Meli Orthopedic Centers of Excellence, formerly Orthopedix MD, are autologous (meaning the cells come from a patient’s own body), there is no chance of immune system rejection.
